Book 1 in the Hunger Games trilogy is a suspenseful and action packed novel set in a dystopian future North America. In this world, Panem, control is maintained in the ruling class through an annual gladiator-style survival event where two young people from each district are selected to kill or be killed in the arena. When her younger sister is selected through the ballot, sixteen-year-old Katniss voluntarily takes her place in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games trilogy was adapted into a film trilogy of the same name in 2012 starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen.
